Some files are too large to email directly because of message size limitations on email servers. The typical limit is 20 mb. (See this link for examples of file sizes)
Sending a Google Drive Link will help you circumvent those restrictions when you are:
- Sending a large document or file
- Sending a group of photos or documents.
- Sending a document you are collaborating on with other people
Compose a new message in Gmail, Click the "Insert Files with Google Drive" icon at the bottom of the message.
You can select a file or folder from items in the My Drive section, as well as Share with Me.
Once you have selected the file or folder, make sure the INSERT AS is set to Drive Link. Then click INSERT.
A link to the file is inserted in your message. The recipient will just need to click on the link and then either open in Google Drive to view or download it to edit.
When you attach a Google Drive file to a message, Gmail checks to see if your recipients have access to the file. If they don't, you'll be prompted to change the sharing settings of the file before you send your message.
